Integrated development of the adolescents towards women’s empowerment

Geographical Coverage

Janata Jeevan Camp, Tigri, New Delhi with a total population of 50,000. 2120 families in the project area are the target population.

Objectives

Building organizations and capacities of the most marginalized through creating awareness among community members on the causes of denial of rights related to gender, shelter, services.

To develop leadership skills and establish linkages in order to address issues of the community - women and girls in particular.

To initiate ‘federation of CBOs’ as a support mechanism to undertake actions on common issues.

Promoting Gender Equity through raising public opinion and action towards enrolment and retention of elementary education for girls.

To create and build human resource base at the community level to deal with issues of gender equity and justice.

Project Brief

By combining community empowerment activities with the demonstration of Primary Health Care model, we are addressing the issue of health and development in an urban poor setting. Regular gynecology, pediatric clinics are being held twice a week At present the focus is on establishing SHGs (Self help groups) and CBOs (Community-based organization) in each block in order to make the programme sustainable and also to bring the community at one platform to develop cooperation, unity and solidarity to ensure their full participation in their community development efforts.  To develop community capacities peer educators, women and youth groups are being trained on the issues of gender, domestic violence, leadership, formalization and legal entity to CBOs, rights, legal rights, Govt/ local services etc. education campaigns are also being organized to promote girls education.

 

Gynaecology, paediatric and adolescent clinics (out patient) and antenatal clinics are being run once every week on the specific identified days. EDP centre are functional and include imparting trainings to adolescents in areas such as tailoring, computer, embroidery, electrical, electronics and refrigeration trades.
